From 2 December 2009,  when the Embassy in Quito or the Honorary Consulates in Guayaquil and Galapagos are closed,  emergency calls  will be handled by a centralised Global Response Centre in London.  The Global Response Team will provide emergency assistance only and will not answer routine passport questions or any visa enquiries. Examples of emergencies include hospitalisation, detention or death of a British national in Ecuador.  If you have a genuine emergency please call to: +593 (2) 2970 800. Your call will be charged at local call rates and may be recorded for monitoring and training purposes.

The Consular team is here to do what it can to look after the interests of British Nationals (and some Commonwealth nationals not represented in Ecuador) visiting or living in Ecuador. This is one of our most important areas of work. There are limits to what we can do, explained in more detail in the "Support for British Nationals Abroad" leaflet.
